Phare 2005 “Institutional strengthening and implementation of the NATURA 2000 ecological network in Croatia” (2008–2009)

In 2008, the State Institute for Nature Protection developed the proposal of the NATURA 2000 network for Croatia. Through the Phare project, this proposal went through a comprehensive consultation process with interested sectors and other stakeholders. Two rounds of workshops were held and a number of remarks made, and in line with these, the Institute revised the proposal.

 

Through the project, two management plans for potential NATURA 2000 areas were developed in cooperation with local stakeholders: Vransko Lake and Jasen, and the area important for large carnivores Gorski Kotar, Primorje and Northern Lika. A part of the project included the training of competent bodies in the mechanisms of assessing acceptability for the ecological network. A series of brochures, flyers, posters and other promotional materials were printed. All the project results, including the database on proposed NATURA 2000 areas are available at the website:
